Professional learning is central to our identity, and is the key to empowering individuals, teams and schools. Our goal is to build expertise to allow colleagues to flourish and to allow leadership to make informed decisions; we want all colleagues to be empowered to exercise professional judgement. To this end, we provide extensive, flexible and contextualised professional learning experiences and programmes through an offer that is adapted at a local level to reflect the evolving needs of individuals and schools.

We are committed to supporting the career progression of all colleagues, whether in teaching roles, support roles or professional services, supporting this through Trust-wide collaborative networks and access to external expertise through national associations. We proactively develop individuals, design our ways of working to ensure that we create diverse leadership opportunities, and intentionally provide experiences to broaden and deepen understanding in both the substantive work and forms of leadership.

All leaders place development of their team members at the heart of their responsibilities. We recognise that individuals’ potential, expertise and interests can be very broad, and the ideal opportunities are not always confined to one part of our organisation. A significant proportion of our leaders have grown with us, moving within Anglian Learning over the years; we actively help colleagues to progress by moving within their school, between schools and from one area of work to another, with numerous colleagues progressing on atypical pathways as well as typical ones.
