National Stress Awareness Day
Wednesday 6 November marks National Stress Awareness Day. This event provides an opportunity to highlight the resources available to you to help cope with stress.
Symptoms of stress
According to the NHS, stress can affect our emotions and we may:
- be irritable, angry or tearful
- feel worried, anxious, hopeless or scared
- struggle to make decisions, have racing thoughts or feel overwhelmed.
The physical symptoms of stress include:
- stomach problems, stress headaches and other odd pains including muscle pain
- skin reactions, like stress rashes and hives
- feeling dizzy, sick or faint.
Tips on managing stress
Exercise: Regular physical activity can help with stress.
Eat well: A balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, and good proteins and fats can help your body handle stress.
Sleep: Getting enough restful sleep.
Relax: Try relaxation techniques like breathing exercises, meditation or yoga.
Connect with others: Social contact can help to relieve stress by talking about what is on your mind. You can try talking to a friend or family member about your worries.
