“Missing Mothers” Virtual Conference 2025
Helena Marsh, Principal of Linton Village College, is contributing to The MTPT Project’s, annual virtual conference titled “Missing Mothers: Retaining & Supporting Valued Colleagues in the Workforce” taking place on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 March 2025.
This online event addresses the significant teacher retention issue affecting women aged 30-39, the largest demographic to leave the teaching profession annually.
In collaboration with The New Britain Project, the conference will feature sessions and speakers who will discuss findings from the “Missing Mothers” report, which garnered national attention in the summer of 2024.
The MTPT Project provides networking, coaching, and training opportunities to support teachers as they become parents, aiming to mitigate the societal, systemic and institutional barriers affecting parent teachers. The MTPT Project manifesto has a range of goals to address teacher attrition rates and the motherhood penalty in the education sector.
Helena, a mum of three children, has experience of taking maternity leave as a senior leader and supporting teaching parents through coaching and by developing workplace culture and practices. She advocates for the charity and her experience of championing flexible working at Linton Village College led to her being invited to discuss the topic on The Today programme on BBC Radio 4.
The ‘Missing Mothers’ conference is scheduled from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM on both days and will be conducted online via Zoom. Helena will be contributing to a leadership panel on Saturday 22 March.
A variety of ticket options are available, including complimentary passes and standard one-day tickets priced at £45. The conference is recommended for trust and school leaders.
