Yesterday morning, we had the pleasure of hosting the Active Learning Sports Event, and it was a huge success! Students from 6 Anglian Learning Trust schools came together for a fun-filled and energetic session that combined physical activity with academic learning.

A total of 108 pupils participated in the event, including 94 Year 3 and Year 4 children and 14 Year 5/6 sports leaders from Marleigh Primary Academy. The schools involved were:

  • Bottisham Community Primary School
  • Howard Community Academy
  • Stapleford Community Primary School
  • Fen Ditton Community Primary School
  • Icknield Primary School

The atmosphere was electric as students participated in a variety of activities, showcasing their skills, enthusiasm, and teamwork. What made this event even more special was the focus on Active Learning, where we explored how incorporating physical activity into subjects like Maths and English can have a hugely positive impact on our brains.

Throughout the morning, students engaged in activities that not only got them moving but also helped them connect the dots between the subjects they are learning and how physical activity enhances cognitive function. This approach to learning was not only fun but also incredibly engaging for everyone involved.

It was truly wonderful to see the students working together, cheering each other on, and applying their teamwork skills in a real-life setting. The day was a reminder of how powerful combining movement with learning can be, and how it helps both focus and memory retention in students.

A big thank you to all the participating schools and the sports leaders for making this event such a success. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future and continuing to foster a love for learning and physical activity in our school community.

We can’t wait for the next one! 🏃‍♂️⚽
