Data Privacy Week
Data Privacy Day is an international event that occurs every year on 28 January and has been expanded in recent years to Data Privacy Week. Data Privacy Week aims to raise awareness and promote privacy and data protection best practices.
Anglian Learning takes its responsibilities concerning data privacy and protection very seriously. We process large amounts of personal data for staff, pupils and parents. This data is used for a variety of purposes and includes, for example, information on HR, safeguarding, health and contact details. We have a dedicated Data Protection Officer to advise and assist us.
Our Data Protection policies document the data being processed, how and why it is processed, how long it will be kept and what rights data subjects have. We have security measures in place to protect data records such as the use of strong passwords, encryption of personal data files and restricting the use of memory sticks. In addition, all staff receive Data Protection and Cybersecurity training as part of our continuing drive to embed data privacy as a core principle of our organisation.
To help protect your data, here are the six basic principles to remember:
- Keep personal data private and secure.
- Delete personal data you don’t need to keep.
- Know what you are using the data for and how long you will keep it.
- Ensure you have the relevant permissions before sharing personal data (for example posting photos on social media).
- Should you receive data requests pass them on to Kerrie Jones, Head of Governance, Compliance and Risk, kjones@anglianlearning.org straight away.
- Don’t take personal data home or transfer data onto personal devices without permission or suitable security in place.
