Last week, our Year 6 pupils embarked on an unforgettable three-day residential trip to Grafham Water, and what a fantastic few days it was! Packed with adventure, teamwork, and laughter, the trip gave our oldest pupils the perfect opportunity to create lasting memories before they move on to secondary school.

The children took part in a wide range of outdoor and adventurous activities designed to challenge, excite and develop key life skills. From archery and low ropes courses to problem solving and team-building tasks, they were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and support one another every step of the way.

One of the most talked-about highlights was definitely the raft building—where pupils had to work together to construct a raft, launch it, and paddle across the water (often getting very wet in the process!). It was fantastic to see such determination, teamwork and joy in action.

The group also explored nature in a bushcraft session, learning how to make fires, shelters and water filters using basic materials and their own ingenuity. These activities were not only fun but also taught valuable survival skills and deepened the children’s appreciation for the natural world.

In the evenings, pupils enjoyed camping with friends, sharing stories, relaxing, and, of course, enjoying great food after full-on days of activity. The trip provided a wealth of social opportunities, helping children to grow in confidence, form deeper bonds with their peers, and develop their independence ahead of the next stage of their journey.

We could not be prouder of how our Year 6 pupils conducted themselves throughout the trip. They showed maturity, resilience, kindness, and an adventurous spirit—everything we hope to see in the young people leaving our school.

A huge thank you must also go to the staff team who gave their time, energy and care to ensure the trip ran smoothly and safely. These experiences are only possible because of their commitment and enthusiasm, and we are very grateful.

This trip was the perfect way to mark the end of the children’s time at primary school and we’re sure they’ll carry these memories with them for years to come.
