On Tuesday 21 May, Annie Vincent and Sarah Jackson-Buckley, Literacy Coordinators at Sawston Village College, were invited to speak on Tom Hopkins-Burke’s Teacher Talk Radio slot on the subject of the importance of reading in enabling access to the curriculum. Joined by speakers from Reading Solutions UK and from the Safa British School in Dubai, they discussed the current literacy climate in UK schools, highlighting that nearly a quarter of students are not arriving at secondary school with reading skills at expected levels, and discussed how the challenges this presents in the classroom can be addressed through quality teaching strategies.
