Let us help dispel the myths surrounding apprenticeships

We are here to help you on your journey. For more information about our apprenticeship programmes or any other enquiries, please contact us at hr@anglianlearning.org.

There are many myths about apprenticeships. Here we dispel the myths and explain why:

Myth 1: Apprenticeships Are Only for New Entrants or Young People
Fact: Apprenticeships are for everyone, regardless of age or career stage, there is no upper age limit. At Anglian Learning, we offer apprenticeships that cater to a range of experience levels, from newcomers to seasoned professionals looking to upskill.

Myth 2: Apprenticeships Don’t Lead to Real Qualifications
Fact: This couldn’t be further from the truth! Our apprenticeships lead to nationally recognised qualifications, ranging from AAT, CIPD, Level 2- Level 7 (Masters degree), depending on the course.

Myth 3: Apprenticeships Are Only Available in Manual or Trade Jobs
Fact: While apprenticeships began in trades, they have evolved. We offer apprenticeships in various roles, including teaching, IT, administration, finance, HR, and management.

Myth 4: Apprentices Are Not Valued Employees
Fact: Apprentices are a vital part of our team at Anglian Learning. We invest in apprentices because we believe in their potential and value their contribution to our diverse and dynamic community.

Myth 5: Apprenticeships Don’t Pay Well
Fact: Apprentices at Anglian Learning receive a competitive salary. We ensure that our apprentices are fairly compensated for their work and learning.

Myth 6: You Can’t Get a Degree through an Apprenticeship
Fact: Anglian Learning offers degree apprenticeships, including teacher’s master’s degrees and chartered manager degrees. These are fantastic opportunities to gain a degree while working.

Myth 7: Apprenticeships Offer Limited Career Progression
Fact: Apprenticeships are a stepping stone to a multitude of career opportunities. Many of our apprentices have gone on to secure permanent roles and achieve significant career advancement within our Trust.

Myth 8: Apprenticeships Are Easier Than Regular Study
Fact: Apprenticeships are rigorous and require a balance of work and study. They are challenging but rewarding, offering practical, hands-on experience alongside academic learning.

Myth 9: You’re Locked Into One Career Path with an Apprenticeship
Fact: Apprenticeships offer flexibility and a variety of skills that can be transferable to different roles within Anglian Learning and beyond. They are a great way to explore different career paths.

Myth 10: There’s No Support for Apprentices
Fact: We provide robust support for our apprentices, including mentorship, peer support, on-the-job training, and access to resources. Our goal is to ensure a fulfilling and successful apprenticeship experience.

Myth 11: You can’t work full time and undertake an Apprenticeship.
Fact: Apprenticeships are completed in collaboration with your current job role. No need to take career breaks or leave employment. You may choose to complete some of the academic work in your own time, but every apprentice is allocated a number of hours during their working week to undertake this.

Myth 12: You must work a minimum of 30 hours per week to undertake an Apprenticeship.
Fact: Many providers now flex the course duration to accommodate those employed on part time hours.

Myth 13: You must attend 20% off the job training/day release to college which is inconvenient.
Fact: The majority of courses are now wholly online and require no day release to college. You need only take around 3 hours out of your working week to complete academic work (not necessarily in one block). Some exceptions do apply.
