As part of our celebration of British Science Week, the school hosted a series of engaging and hands-on after-school science workshops that were a resounding success! These workshops, led by our dedicated teachers, invited children to explore the wonders of science alongside their parents and carers, sparking curiosity and creativity through fun experiments.
One of the highlights of the workshops was an exciting activity where participants made music with water-filled jars. By adjusting the amount of water in each jar, families discovered how different pitches could be created, teaching them the science of sound waves in a fun and interactive way. The air was filled with laughter as children experimented with the jars, learning about frequency and vibration while creating their own unique tunes!
Another fascinating experiment involved exploring the weight of different liquids. Children and their families compared the densities of various liquids, from water to oil and syrup, observing how each liquid floated or sank when placed in water. This hands-on experiment was a great opportunity to understand the concept of density in a way that was both educational and entertaining.
Perhaps the most magical moment came when participants discovered the secrets of dissolving substances and making coins move. In these experiment, families explored how different materials—like salt and sugar—dissolve in water and how they could use their knowledge to make coins move seemingly on their own. It was a fantastic way to introduce the concept of chemical reactions, and the children were thrilled by the surprising results!
The workshops not only provided a platform for families to engage with science together but also encouraged critical thinking, curiosity, and teamwork. It was inspiring to see the excitement and enthusiasm in the rooms as everyone came together to explore the world of science.
These hands-on activities were just one part of our school’s efforts to celebrate British Science Week and foster a love for science in our students and their families. We look forward to more events like this in the future, where learning and fun go hand in hand!
