The children had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day on Thursday.

The day kicked off with a whole school assembly introducing the 2025 World Book Day Book: I want a dog by Jon Agee. This is a very humorous story with a clear message stating that ‘you can’t always get what you want’ as one little girl is determined to find her perfect pet at a wonderfully unusual animal shelter which has an aardvark, a lizard, a python, a weasel, and plenty more. But do they have a dog? The little girl has even turned up with a trolley to take home a dog – and she will not take ‘no’ for an answer!

Once listened to, the children returned to their classrooms to discuss the text with their teachers; draw animals disguised as other animals by following a draw along video; drama activities; designing a habitat for Lucinda the seal in their home and creating a class book of poems called: A Book is… A selection of work from the day will be displayed in the library.

It was fantastic to see a love of reading throughout the day, which is ultimately what we try to promote not just on World Book Day but every day!
