Local Governing Bodies play an important part in setting the vision and ethos of the academies; reflecting and shaping the views of key stakeholders; maintaining an important democratic link with local communities; agreeing the improvement strategy and supporting and challenging academy leaders to deliver excellent outcomes.

The scheme of delegation (SoD) enables a high degree of local oversight by governors.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community, and use and develop your skills.

Governor Opportunities

Do you want to make a real difference in the outcomes for young people? Anglian Learning welcomes applications from individuals wishing to help to provide outstanding education and learning for our communities by becoming a school governor.

Our members share the firm belief that successful learning communities are underpinned by ambitious vision, trust and strong inspirational leadership at all levels of the organisation; that excellence is not simply defined by Ofsted grades and league table positions; and that education can play a transformational role in the lives of children and the success and wellbeing of our wider society.

Through membership of Anglian Learning, our goals are achieved by working with like-minded schools, leaders, teachers and all staff who are prepared to share responsibility, through support and challenge, to ensure that all our academies can offer an excellent education to all pupils, whatever their background and starting point.

What will you be doing?
Whilst the Trust Board has oversight of our academies, Local Governing Bodies (LGBs) provide a valuable local perspective, representing the community and acting as the voice for parents and staff. In addition, LGBs monitor safeguarding, special educational needs and standards, as well as working with the school to set its vision, values and improvement plan.

You will be required to attend 6 meetings per year and in time may be asked to take on a specific role linked to a statutory area such as Safeguarding or SEND. Training will be available to support you.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for people with enthusiasm and a commitment to the role, willing to provide both support and challenge to the Headteacher and senior leaders in order to achieve high quality education for every child. You must be prepared to uphold the Nolan principles of Public Life.

What difference will you make?
A strong governing board ensures robust debate, which in turn leads to better educational outcomes for children. Whatever your professional background, your skills could transform a school.

What’s in it for the volunteer?
Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills.
